Rage Warrior (Update Design)

Reworked Guy Gardner's alter ego design for my Elseworld Universe.


In this Elseworld Universe Guy Gardner is the former commanding officer of John Stewart when he served in the Army Special Forces.

Gardner, while being a brilliant tactician, hand to hand combat expert and weapons expert was also a person with sadistic tendencies and a hunger for power on many levels. It was these two traits which eventually led to his military career coming to an end as his drive to always be on top and enforcing his authority leads to disregard for the safety and well being of his subordinates in a training mission resulting in the deaths of two soldiers from the squad Stewart was in charge of. Testimony from Stewart and others in Gardner’s unit in regards to his blatant disregard for the safety and lives of the soldiers under his command results in Gardner’s being court martialed from military service and being imprisoned for reckless endangerment leading to unintended manslaughter.

A few months into his imprisonment Gardner is visited by General Wade Eiling who was recruiting various military personnel to join the initial incarnation of what would become known as Task Force X, which was to serve as a government controlled team in response to the formation of the Justice League. Despite the circumstances that lead to his imprisonment, Eiling wants Gardner to be a member of Task Force X because he views the skills he has as being an asset to the team he is creating.

After Gardner agrees to become a part of the team and various strings are pulled that allow him to become the government’s responsibility, he is told he will be given an experimental battle suit that is a fusion of cutting edge terrestrial cybernetics and mysterious extraterrestrial components and power source. The battle suit Gardner dons amplifies his strength, speed, and agility as well as allows him to generate powerful and destructive energy blast, protective defensive/life support shielding and the ability of flight.

The battle suit also had the unforeseen side effect of also amplifying Gardner’s natural aggression, anger and rage whenever he donned and utilized the suit.

It was by way of routine training/study sessions of news and covert intelligence footage taken of the founding Justice League members that was designed to help the members of Task Force X become familiar with the abilities and tactics of the League members, that Gardner came to recognize the current Green Lantern as being John Stewart and his long held anger over the part Stewart played in his being imprisoned was re-ignited. Gardner soon became obsessed with the idea of confronting Stewart and making him pay for his actions against him and eventually donned the battle suit and simply went rouge from Task Force X in order to achieve this.

Traveling to Coast City and going on a destructive rampage designed to draw out Green Lantern, Gardner finally came face to face with the now empowered Stewart and engaged him in battle.

Although his rage and anger heightened abilities seemed to be initially giving Gardner the upper hand in the battle, Stewart’s cool under pressure and imaginative thinking allowed him to eventually get the better of Gardner and defeat him, although Gardner was able to evade being captured and taken into custody.

Since that first confrontation, Gardner has gone on to be a constant adversary to Green Lantern as well as establish himself as a major threat in the eyes of federal and international level law enforcement leading to incidents that found him at odds with not only John Stewart but Stewart’s allies in the Justice League and the current restructured incarnation of Task Force X now under the command of Steven Trevor Jr. (father to the current incarnation of Wonder Woman in this Elseworld Universe).
