The Crusader

In this alternate Marvel Universe Genis-Vell is the oldest of the two offspring of the extraterrestrial Kree cosmic protector Mar-Vell aka Captain Marvel and the Titan Eternal known as Elysius.  Genis, as well as his younger sister Phyla, was born with the latent potential of the cosmic awareness granted to their father by the cosmic Eternal known as Kronos when he assumed the role of cosmic protector as well as superhuman strength, regenerative powers, and energy manipulation inherited from their mother.

Because of Mar-Vell's affinity for Earth and it's people, he and Elysius after they wed settled down to a somewhat normal life in order to raise their two children on Earth under the assumed guises of Walter and Eliza Lawson with Genis and Phyla given the aliases of Jensen and Phyllis.   After Mar-Vell’s death, Elysius and her then teenaged children relocated to Titan where the two teens could fully embrace their Eternal heritage as well as master their inherent energy manipulation abilities. When his father's old nemesis Thanos was resurrected by the universal embodiment of Death to act as her avatar in the cosmos a now adult Genis decides he will take up his father's heroic legacy and oppose the activities of the former Mad Titan as his father once had.

In order to better accomplish this new mission he has set for himself he seeks out a way to contact Kronos in hopes he is able to awaken the full potential of his latent cosmic awareness  in order to continue in his father’s role as “Universal Protector”. Genis was able to contact Kronos  who was able to awaken Genis' latent cosmic awareness, but only after he proved to Kronos that he deserved to inherit the responsibility of being the new “Universal Protector”. Genis dons an altered design of his father's Protector uniform as well as modified versions of the Nega-Bands that allow him to combine his own energy generation abilities with the photonic energy generation powers of the band for various unique effects. Dubbing himself the Crusader, Genis has gone on to do just that by waging a crusade against Thanos and his various minions whereever the Avatar of Death seeks to unleash death and destruction at his mistress's desire.

The Crusader's duties as the new “Universal Protector” has also brought him into conflict with various other beings and races seeking to bring chaos or destruction to the universe such as the Kree and the Skrulls, whose current ongoing conflict with each other as well as their individual empire expanding ambitions make them just as much a threat to various civilization throughout the universe as Thanos. The Crusader has also had encounters with various superhuman threats on Earth as well, such as the volatile explosive mutant known as Nitro, who has become his most persistent foe after Thanos in this alternate universe.

He has also gained various allies in his ongoing crusade against Thanos both from Earth and from various alien civilizations he has had a chance to interact with in his current role as Universal Protector. His younger sister, Phyla who has also taken up continuing their father heroic legacy under the identity of Quasar also adds her unique powers to the fight against Thanos.
